Body work and more body work and lots more ahead  now in mid July 2016 and the load box has been checked, sheet metal shrunk in places to get rid of "oil canning" on some sections of the panels due to assembly welds, now it's off to sand blasters & a coat of zink epoxy primer.
Now we start on the cab, straighten gutters & trim excess, re-weld numerous factory spot welds which either failed or just shitty workmanship from 60 years ago.
The rear seams of the cab panels were fill welded to get a smooth finish and to prevent rust creeping out in future, also a drain was notched into left & right rear side gutter channel to allow for water drainage, after some roof dent removal the filler work commences.

The roof seam/joint above the windscreen was surprisingly rust free(most are rusted gone, leaving a gaping hole), I opted to fill weld the seam it will be smooth and clean.

As we were working side/section at a time, each area when ready got its share off filler primer & guide coat applied.

Right door fitted after some hammer treatment, now line up gaps, sill and gutter edge, a fair bit of cutting and trimming was required to get door gaps as desired.

One thing that bugged me on this door/body fit, was the pointed front upper door corner where it meets the body/fender, it had to go and get that round shape to it, so some more cutting/trimming & welding to be done.

End July and the load bin is back too.
20160721_215044.jpg (83.12 KiB) Viewed 1725 times
My Mobile trolley on which the cab is mounted now needed to grow a bit longer in order to fit & build the front clip/fenders etc on, so all chassis dimensions were duplicated and the whole repair/paint job can be done without having to clean & repaint chassis/motor etc.

After fitting the left front fender we found a problem when trying to align the front clip assembly with the bonnet in place, it appeared after much measuring/checking etc that the left fender is longer than it should be :?: because when all gaps are aligned the front edge of the fender is 8mm to far forward in relation to the bonnet and front valance components.

So the fender got removed and the rear seam(at the door end was untacked, the inner fende support re-positioned, the fender trimmed and the seam re-folded and bam :!:  it all fits(barring that we now have to ream some mounting holes because now they don't fit proper  - gap alignment back in the day must've been +/- 1/2 meter tolerance    )

Body work now full steam ahead and the consumables bill just keeps growing............weekly 8O

Now for colour choice :?: :?: :?:  I was nearly convinced that Satin Black was to be the colour for this project, but I was still not sure of my choice.
I decided to get something lighter in colour for the engine bay as a contrast rather than just this big black hole when you open the bonnet and look inside, so off to the paint shop and I got a liter of gun metal base/clear and we sprayed the inner fenders gun metal and the fender black too see the effect.

:o :D
Well that just did it for me..........Gun Metal it is for the entire truck.

Well I had 8L of satin black, so everything was sprayed black to show all defects and fix them before final paint - You guys know what black does to a perfect body panel :?:
It shows that you are NOT READY for paint......by a long shot
Yup, there was a lot more sanding and filling to be done for a perfect finish.

But now it's bed time for me.

Now mid to end August 2016 and I took some time to fit the air tank and compressor to the chassis, as this will be under the cab floor and there is just enough space to accommodate these.

Following this build closely, keen to learn more about the air suspension installation. Looking to do this on my Apache but need to find an installer in Dbn preferably

So on with the build progress, now in mid October 2016 and time to start some assembling onto the chassis as the painted parts are now stacking up again in the Granny Flat.

Where to fit the battery?, being 105 A/hr battery it will need a fair bit of space and I do not want to clutter up the engine bay with it.
So the out of sight option appeals to me - under the cab floor mounted in a drop out box on the side of the chassis and my measurements confirm there is just enough space for it to fit.

After fitting and aligning the doors and then fitting all new rubber bumpers, door gaskets and new handles, this build is getting me excited

Next inline was treating the underside of the cab and part of the firewall with some heat reflective material to reduce heat absorption into the cab, prior to fitting it onto the chassis - For the last time.

Cab fitted with new mount rubbers and just enough clearances all round to barely get a spanner in.
This so near completion now I can already smell the rubber smoke
Now past the middle of November 2016 and installation of many parts can now begin and stay fitted(and reduce the stock pile of parts that I have accumulated over the 18 months +
