Capri Perana gets a tarting up!
Hi there,
I though it about time I posted some pics of my Capri Perana restoration.
I think I have got the pics down to the right size but I'm new at this so please bear with me as it might be a right c**k up.
Here is the Capri shortly after it arrived in the UK. I had it painted in Joburg but it turned out the wrong yellow and I ran out of time to get it repainted. The painter assured me he knew what the correct colour was supposed to be and I was pretty green in those days and trusted him. Oh well, here we go again!

Hi Johan,
Finally seem to have got it right this time. Like I have said before, I'm much better with spanners and a welder than I am with the old keyboard and box of lights!!!
The rims are 13" Compomotive splits, with 215's tyres on the front and 235's tyres on the back. Not sure of the rim widths but I reduced the fronts from 235 tyres as the steering was too heavy when going slow. This was after a small accident in 1989 which I will explain along with future pics.
Sorry but you're gonna have to wait.
Regards
Paul

Thanks for the compliment,
I'm hoping it's going to look a lot better when I'm done with it.
I will post some more pics tonight when I get home from work. I tried from my work PC but it dumped everything, too much security.
Cheers

Agree with previous post...'good looking car'. Great to see a true ZA classic car on the streets of the UK!
Look forward to other pics (ps: I havent figured out how to post my Perana pics as yet)

Re: Capri Perana gets a tarting up!
Thanks Ahmed,
At present the car is in my garage on the spit and I've just finished painting the underside.
I will be posting pics leading up to the present state of things as I have already done a lot of work but didn't know how to get the pics up. I can only do this in the evenings after work and I finish at 7pm plus the hours difference so will be a bit late but keep looking. This is only my second and a bit Capri body resto so am still a novice at this but have some pics of interest to show.
Regards

Re: Capri Perana gets a tarting up!
The little accident that I mentioned happened on my way home from work in 1989 and involved a bit too much speed, some gravel, a bend and a couple of pretty hard curbs.
I lost it in the bend and hit one curb which bent the offside tiebar then I shot back across the road hitting the curb pretty hard, head on. This ripped off the offside front wheel and slammed it into the drivers footwell and rear section of the wing and dented the nearside outer wheel rim (split rims).
After getting the car taken home I decided it was time to repaint it back to it's origional yellow/black as it was a metalic maroon. It looked nice enough but I really wanted it yellow.
To cut a long story short after several house moves, a few job changes and a few other projects got in the way I finally got started on it in 1999.
I stripped it down and sent it to a body shop to have the repairs done and to be painted but when I got it back the repair was to basicaly beat the sh*t out of the footwell with a 4 pounder then spray it the wrong yellow.
I was not impressed but had run out of time to get it redone and decided to sort it out once in the UK.
So the first job was to take the wings off and repair the footwell. This meant removing the whole 'A' panel and replacing it with a panel from Expressed Panels.
Here are a few pics for your enjoyment

I also needed to do a small repair to the rusty nearside sill extention but just made my own panel to do this. Chuffed with the way it came out.
The car was actually upside down on the spit when I did this hence the tools 'stuck' to the bottom of the car.

Looking nice Paul.
Paul is too modest - I have seen what he did on Mike's (formerly Gavin's, then Alvin's, then Tertius's, now Adrian's) BG 299 - very good stuff indeed.
