If you can make some of these you can use the V6 Crossmember and mount it to the 289/302 motor
Rough estimate of 45 Degrees on the mount.
Keeping in mind the V angle of the motor is 90 Degrees

thanks for the info Marnus, so I would then use the round rubber mountings that were on the v6 ?

here is a old photo of the crossmember, you can see the rubber mounting I'm talking about on the left hand side

Hi All,

So I took some smaller parts home to work on during the week. Managed to fix up my dashboard a bit. Its not perfect as it was in quite bad shape, but its a lot better than it was.

Hi All,

So I picked up my manifold and carb this week.

But, I'm still confused as to what I should do with my diff, I feel the best option would be just to find a second hand 3l axle.

I had a look at the spare axle that I've got, 13 teeth on the pinion gear and 42 on the ring gear. that makes it a ratio of 3.2:1
What ratio should I have with the 302 and C4 gearbox ?

My concern is that I don't know what condition the axle is in (the oil that was in it was more of a brown sludge than oil) and also, how do make this axle work on my Capri, the place where the leaf springs mount to is larger than the original once, also it has no place to connect the rear shocks to.
I also don't have the drums + brakes and will have to change the hubs to 4 stud. All this seems to be a lot I have to do on this axle and think it might end up costing me more then just trying to find one that will work without changing anything.

here are some photos of the axle:

I also need to replace all bushes on the car, however the guys that I have spoken to mentioned that I need to measure the size of the leaf spring bushes as these came in 3 or 4 different sizes on the Capri. I guess I need to wait with this until I have figured out my rear axle situation ?

The only bushes I can find are polyurethane, are these any good ?

That axle also seems to be a bakkie one, the shocks would mount on the bracket clamping the leafs.
One can always get a bearing kit, and check the crown&pinion for wear, new oil and seals, 4x108 side shafts and all this you can probably get from Interspares.

Can always do a disc brake conversion?

I have also seen a few 1.6/2.0 Cortinas M68 diff run a stock V8 no issues.

My opinion:

Do a deep inspection on the current diff in the Capri and run it until you can find a M75 to suit
