64 Ford Thunderbird

Post by Graeme » Sun 25 May 2014, 18:14

Bought this thunderbird in Greytown on a farm. It's a 390 with cruise O matic box. I've always loved the details these cars had especially the light up speedo.

It was a freaking nightmare to tow with . First of all I loaded the car ass first so all the weight was in the front. As soon as I hit 70 the trailer started to sway all over the place and because I'm running 20's the clearance was very tight between the rear fenders and the tyre. I also noticed the max tow weight for my tow bar is 1600kgs and the trailer and the car weight close to 3 tons. Took me 10 hours from mooi river to JHB driving at 60.

Hey Greame

where do u scratch these beauties?

Great looking car you have there.

The lights at the back remind me of the dodge (I think its a Monaco) but its lights come abit sharper to give off that bad boy eye effect.

Whats the plans with this 1?

I must admit I love the interior of these cars! Quality with lots of chrome and detail.

My Ute is fitted with a set of air cushions at the back so the back never sags. I towed a Land Rover on my trailer from Hibberdene and could average about 100km/h and at 17 lt/km.
