Re: Z28 Kommando back home!
Yeah, got the car safely home, some 70km trip, ran ok but the brakes were touch and go, I have since fixed it ( a little pin hole on the metal part of the brake pipe going into the caliper) Johann, I seriously forgot to leave your spanner behind, I have since dropped it off with your son yesterday.
let me say this: it is such a pity it stood by Piet so long, the elements did take its toll on the paintwork and gearbox seals.
the 305 is smooth but lacks serious grunt like I am used to, the V8 burble is absolute music to my ears after all these years.
the things I intend improving ( I don't mean to offend Johann)
1. take a few inches out of the ride height ( moves a bit like a land yacht)
2. fit my 18" alloys which will also improve handling
3. fit some nice gas riders up front , the rear has the nice heavy duty ones
4. change the front seats to more of a supportive style
5.fit a rev counter
6.fit my tuned 350 and TH350 gearbox - for some added grunt and tyre frying potential
7. although the power steering is great, it robs some engine HP and is very sensitive, I might have to go back to the manual steering box, then again, once the 18's are on , I might have a change of heart
8. I would have to upgrade the exhaust to at least 63mm for the 350
9.fit branches
and that's about it. I am just sooo grateful to have an 8cylinder again, I was having some serious withdrawal symptoms after my last car left
as always opinions are most welcome !!

Hullo Ray, No problem with the mods Glad it has found a home as that shape is nicest 4 door Holden/SA Chev (HQ) ever built. The later models had been over preened. Hope you enjoy the car plenty engine space Just let a person listen to the 305 and you will sell it immediatelymantaray wrote:Yeah, got the car safely home, some 70km trip, ran ok but the brakes were touch and go, I have since fixed it ( a little pin hole on the metal part of the brake pipe going into the caliper) Johann, I seriously forgot to leave your spanner behind, I have since dropped it off with your son yesterday.

Re: Z28 Kommando back home!
If memory holds me correctly; didn't Johann65 fit a 700R4 behind that 305? If so; I'd leave that in there because the low gear ratio is much steeper than the TH350's plus, that box has overdrive. And that tranny was also used behind the 350 motors.mantaray wrote:Yeah, got the car safely home, some 70km trip, ran ok but the brakes were touch and go, I have since fixed it ( a little pin hole on the metal part of the brake pipe going into the caliper) Johann, I seriously forgot to leave your spanner behind, I have since dropped it off with your son yesterday.

Re: Z28 Kommando back home!
It is a heart breaking to see your car leaving Johann65.... but if it goes to the right person, it only means it will be taken care really well. We have a lot of those over here but they mostly came in 6 inline or 253 or 308. Is 305 have the same block as the 350 chevy ? I never seen that motor in real life. I can't wait to see it with the new wheels and motor

Re: Z28 Kommando back home!
Kommando had some suspension work done (not to everyone's taste I know), engine getting detailed, not the best heads, but everything is new inside and heads are ported, hopefully good for 300 - 350Hp.
next is the interior, then the pinion seal and gearbox leak,
