BMBS-1968 Ford F100

Post by BMBS-F100-1968 » Sun 14 Dec 2014, 11:20

Hi All,

Like you know I am new to the Forum but here I go!

I have a big issue with the truck it has almost R12000 of arrears on the license! This was not as planned. I paid for the truck R28000 but with the R12000 of license fees this is not as planned. So I and the previous owner are in an arm wrestling to sort this out! Will get the lawyer involved soon!

But:

My dad will be helping me on the work when he is visiting me.

My plan is to get the body prepped in this two weeks of leave! (High Hopes 8O ) We are not going anywhere for this break construction break! I and my family will be at home for this festive season!

Please note that this is not me taking the photos. This was done by the previous owner!

The chassis he did is not as required, the paint is cracking and coming off the chassis! I have cleaned it up and done some painting to just prevent it from rusting! I want to send it in to get sand blasted and then Galvanized or Powder coated, what will you do?

The truck is yellow but on the papers I got it stated that the truck was grey! So my plan is to make it grey but with some modern paint! Maybe some flake or just with a deep rich grey!

The motor that was in is a 302 Winsor motor. O ja, this will be my first V8 build! But are willing to learn on the way! Will post a lot of pictures as I get started on it! (Build a lot off 4 cylinder turbo motors) So for me to get all the parts do I stroke the motor to a 347ci and fuel injection or do I go carburetor? The gear box look like the original 3 speed box that came with the F100’s do I change to a 4 speed or will this one be ok? The Diff looks bad! It is welded and welded and maybe some more welding! Do I use this diff but get it looked at with Sarel Delport, or to whom do I take it? Do I just buy new one and install that?

Suspension???? Air or do I modify the installed one with a 6” drop! Read some articles on the modification on the frame to notch it out and then stiffen it back up!

Wheels, 20” in front and 22” in the back but seen some nice wheels at Garnis in Witbank 22” with a 5 x 120 PCD that I can maybe make work with an adaptor spacer?

Sorry for all the question but I want to go in the right direction, don’t want to spend money on something and then need to re do it!

The only thing I did on the truck was stripping the steering box off and then removed all the suspension! Want to send the frame in as soon as I am back in SA! (In Botswana at the moment busy on project – Back in SA on the 19th!!!)

Will do some post over the holiday time!

Where else in the world is the grass so green?

Mooi Bakkie.

I do not like the moerse Bull Bar bumper up front, but I guess it works well when the nation gets in your way.

Good morning to all,

Man I cannot wait to get back to South Africa tomorrow!

I have stripped off the suspension just before I came to Botswana! See some photos.

I have ordered a WET Sandblaster that works on my power washer! Hope it will work as planned!

I want to remove the hanger brackets from the chassis, and then bolt them back on later. I also want to flip them to get the Truck as close to road as possible! Do you think this is ok and do I use 12.8 or 8.8 bolts when I rebuild it? At the moment it is riveted! I know that bolts don’t get close to rivets but I guess some one has done this before and a lot of people do this on rebuilds!

Now I am back to paint, what do I use on the chassis? Normal 2K? Prime x 2 coats and 2-3 coats final?

Hi all, stripped my gauge cluster tonight! All look ok but the cover is badly stained i tried to use Brasso to clean it up but no luck! Any advice? Do i take the plastic cover to some one to get it polished out? ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

One last question how will i test the gauges to see it they work? Will put the speed on a drill but the fuel a temp gauge?

Try 2000 water paper with plenty of soapy water. You should be able to get it clear.
My wife's golf 5 lenses were very dull and sand blasted and I used the water paper and soapy water and it came out very nice. You can even use 1000 grit first and then the 2000. Afterward give it a polish with car polish. Should come out clear.

Thanks Mark,

I used 1200 grit water sand paper and tooth paste and braso mixture! It looks 120% better but you can still see the light brown stain! Now I can see the speedo and all the gauges! I will paint the dials tonight orange as it was! Will post some pictures later on!

Can any body tell me to whom in the East Rand i can talk to to sandblast my chassis? I did blast it with my High Pressure Washer Sand blasting kit! But in an hour i only took off about 200 x 100 section! This will cost me water and power and 60 bags of grid to get it clean!
