On channel 121 - Car Sharks last night the women bought the same Dodge bakkie for $750. with a straight 6 engine.
The makeover which was a second hand grill and left mudguard and new tyres and respray was about $4500.
She then sold it on a auction for about $6000. Which should be around R80000.
I must add those shows are few years back .

I woud not mind a similar Dodge bakkie here in Polokwane but with a Bullbar

Was the 383 factory or swapped in? Why I wonder is our 1972+ D/W series trucks had a 400 or 440 engine option since the 383 was dropped after 1971 here in the USA.

Hi Bearhawke
The body style you know as 72 to 80 in the states was only available in SA from 75 to 80, and discontinued in 80. The only engine option was the 225 slant six. The previous body style did come with either the slant or a poly 318, and towards the end of the production run, the LA 318 too, as far as I know. I'm pretty sure they did not have any of the other V8s that were available in the States.
Coming back to the body style pictured, the 383s have been transplanted by owners over time from Chrysler 383 cars that were also sold locally. So the 383s were never offered in the later body style trucks, only the 225.
Interestingly, these are the production numbers of Dodge D100 trucks from 75 to 80:
- 426 in 1975
- 499 in 1976
- 506 in 1977
- 240 in 1978
- 275 in 1979
- n/a in 1980, and discontinued in 1980.
Also, the only grilles we ever saw here were the US equivalent ones from 1974 to 1976, and the US 1977 ones - the latter was used towards the end. Chrysler SA seemed to have a policy of first using whatever was still available at the factory before new ones from the US were fitted. So it is very difficult to tell the model year of one of the SA trucks by looking at the grille. My truck used to be a police service vehicle, so it is not even registered on the normal vehicle registry. It has the US 1977 grille, so I think it is either a 1977, or 1978 or 1979 or 1980 model.
