Poly Power

Post by roelb » Fri 08 Jan 2016, 22:14

Well, I have just spent 5 weeks in SA, Jeffrieses Bay. My main goal was to upgrade the Fury I bought form Gunter.
We flew with 2 large luggae bags filled with the 'imported' stuff. The wife was not impressed, there was no space for clothes.
First goal was to get a 4 barrel manifold, rare as hens teeth. I met Roland Osborne, from Chrysler Power in Tx. They have just produced a 100 ali intakes for the poly motor. He sent me the show room intake, the only one outside USA. It is a work of art!!
That filled a suitcase by itself. I also brought with a new Holley, OEM Mopar electronic ignition and various other bits.
Once in SA, after a new battery the Fury started first time, been standing since July. After 2 days of just driving, I met a guy that builds exhaust systems. We manage to get rid of the single pipe, and in one day built a dual 2/14 inch system with a cross over box, bringing the pipes out just behind the rear door.

The next stage, after a few days of loud driving was to take the old 2 barrel intake off.
After removing the a/c, intake was easy to get off. The trouble started with the new intake. I have never modified a car before, I only refit OEM parts. I did not dry fit the manifold with the bolts supplied. Being in a rush, I coted the expensive composite gaskets and when I fitted the manifld the holes did not align on about 3 bolts. Talking to Roland then, he adsvied me to hone and dry fit. My mistake!!
After 2 frustrating days and many hours I manage to get the intake to fit. I was forced to use the old metal gaskets. Roland said it was impossible to use them, but what do you do when in SA a few days before Xmas. :|
With luck it worked, many hours of sweat and busted knuckles…
Once the Holley was on I realised the accl cable is to short. At Chrysler Power they have only done the conversion on auto cars. Again I was stuck.
After speaking to Francois Oosthuizen, I met Andre Ferreira in Humansdorp. What a helpfull fella. We manage to make a bracket of some sorts to enable the short cable to reach the Holley.
Again the Fury started first time.
I then decided to call it a day, as I only had a week left of my holiday. Thus I spent a wonderfull week terrifying the public in Jeffires with this loud black monster. It puts a smile on me permanently. The electronic ignition will have to wait for next time.
I include some pics.
The car is a blast to drive, I actually enjoy it more than my Roadrunner :D

Beauty! The intake is a piece of art hey?! Andre has a nice collection of Mopar's....true Moparian. ;)

You could always come leave the wagon in Gauteng, I'll make sure she does not have to "rest" for months?!

Ters, I'll think of your offer if the need arises ;) Thanks for the kind words.
Yes Gunter, it was very hectic for me as well. But rest assured, I am going to look after the old girl and we'll meet up again some time in the near future.
Forgot to say I apologise about the dirty engine bay and plumbing. It was a matter of taking desperate short cuts or not drive the Fury at all :)

Jayce, the engine is very very smooth and pulls really well. With the 2 barrel going uphill was a bit of a long trip. Now she just pulls all the way.
In June I'm going to fit the electronic ignition which will improve things even more, after that, headers...... ;)
