Good day Members of African Muscle Cars! With news to this particular vehicle, the block GEO 2571 matches the paperwork. Now I know what you're thinking, someone installed a Ford 302 - V8 and changed the engine numbers on the paperwork legitimately, but what if it was Basil Green that did the conversion for a private client instead of the Ford Motor Company who normally ordered these conversions to be done. According to some people, this vehicle was built by Basil Green for the client because he wanted to pull/tow a caravan or boat! The conversion was not done by a backdoor mechanic but because of the age of the vehicle, we have to say the conversion was neatly done, because the brackets were very neat to incorporate the power - steering and air - conditioning pumps, the brackets were made out of steel instead of the cast - iron brackets normally used in the For Perana vehicles. I also have pics of the gearbox mounting bracket and the differential was serviced by Gearmax but can't say if the brand is Borg Warner! The radiator weighed a ton but the fuel intake was an aftermarket Edelbrock brand with a Holley carburettor! All I need now is the contact details for Basil Green in Edenvale to confirm the legitimacy of this vehicle.

Without any documentation to support the claim this car was converted by BG the claim is just that, a claim.

No BG plate, no BG engine number means it is not a Perana of any sort.

You have a nice V8 conversion, enjoy it, but don't harbour any dreams that it is a Perana.

I didn't state that it is a Perana but it was probably built/fabricated by Basil Green. What I really want to know is, is that the engine code normally found on the 302-V8 engine's found in his cars and was the engine taken out of Basil Green's stock and fitted into this car. The only way to know for sure is to get someone from the licensing dept to check if the engine was initially from another vehicle or was that engine new from the BG workshop? Another request is to get in contact with Basil!

With due respect anyone could have fitted the 302. The Mk2 Granada was not a common BG car, in fact very few were reputedly made.

Basil is unlikely to be able to remember what was supplied with what and what was fitted to what. All Perana's had BG plates as well as unique engines numbers which correspond to the plate.

Respect Noted and given! What I really want to know is the engine code...

That engine number is probably a bog standard Ford number. I don't know. Do some research.

The fact that the engine number is on the car's registration document just means that someone at some stage did the legally required thing and had the details amended to match the new engine. Nothing more.

That's not a BG engine number. That engine number is not stamped by BG. That's not a BG shell. Wishing your car to be a Perana will not magically make it into a Perana.

There is no evidence that the car was ever near BG. Wishing your car to have been converted by BG will not magically turn it into a BG conversion.

You won't find any details with Basil Green. I've been through all of what he has. He has no records of such stuff.

I really don't know what you are trying to prove. No amount of wishful thinking, or PMs, or anything, is suddenly make one of us say 'Oh, yes, that is a BG car'.

EDIT to add: The fact that the ford plates have BG in the body number is just co-incidental.

Think it through... If, hypothetically as you claim, the car is a BG conversion, how on earth could somebody at Ford know that ahead of time?

Which is why I asked you guys because I don't know the blocks came with the BG stamp. Sometimes people do buy matching cars and sell them at a low price not knowing what they did have, so I'd rather make sure it isn't the real thing before selling her for R40k unknowingly and then finding out it is the real thing. Now I do know and always knew it wasn't a Perana but I thought it was probably built by Basil himself. No question is stupid when money is involved!

But a little bit of logical thought first goes a long way....
