Ford Ranchero Xr8

Post by parkerya » Thu 02 Aug 2018, 18:40

I bought my new project Ford Ranchero Xr8 last Saturday. It has a 351 Cleveland 2v with aT5 manual box. 9" LS Diff. Disk brakes all round. Needs a bit of work. I'm in need of an air filter pan and tappet cover oil cap n a new accelerator cable. Second stage doesn't open on the carb n the timing must be set.
If anyone has any edelbrock and other shiny n performance goodies they want to sell please let me know 0six14one53897

Can't seem to download the other pics. Can I WhatsApp someone the pics to post for me?

i was told by the guy who built the motor that in fact it is a 302 Cleveland & not a 351, a little disappointed that the previous owner lied about that.
it has an Edelbrock Carb & electronic dizzy. The reason why 2nd stage is not opening is because the gap between the acc pedal & the floor is very narrow so there's not enough travel to open the 2nd stage. i was told to put a spacer behind the acc pedal. Will this work or is there anything else i can do? maybe with the cable or something else?

Unfortunately seemingly quite common that sellers tend to do this.

Still a 302 is really cool. Any way you can adjust the accelerator cable

You have a mismatch in how much cable pull the pedal can do vs the required cable pull the carb needs. So you have to increase the pedal pull or decrease the carb requirement.

On the carb it should be a simple has relocating the cable attachment point closer to the shaft centre. I am not familiar with your carb's links, but if it has one of the ball pivots that bolts through the throttle arm, then move it to a lower point, existing hole if there is or drill a new one. If it is welded on, then a bit more work to do.

Pedal pull depends on the type: it it has a pivot point in the middle somewhere and the upper pulls on the cable, then you can remove the assembly and alter the pivot point to be lower down on the pedal. Fair bit of work to do, but you can alter the amount of pull dramatically.

Overall you have some trigonometry to do... it is all about the angle the throttle shaft has to turn to get full throttle. That angle and the length from shaft centre to the cable attachment.. Measure how much the pedal pulls the cable. Then measure how much the carb needs and take it from there.
