Mazda SOLD!!! My new toy!!

Post by THE ONE » Tue 28 Jun 2011, 16:52

So this weekend was bit of a hectic one!!!

Mazda Sold on Friday night and it was time to do my fiancés favorite past time!!!Shopping!!!!

Went to look at a heap of rust buckets ranging from Escorts, Cortina's and one Fairmont Sr8 6......

Went to JHB on sunday and found this after driving out more than a R1000 petrol.....

1991 Ford Sierra 3.0 GL.Drives very nice with minor issues like the heaterbox that is leaking....in the winter....Not Ayoba 8O

I have a question for the V6 kenners. On the tappet covers it says 3.4l.....My brother tells me the 3.4L covers do not fit on the 3.0l ?

Also now hunting for XR6 or IRS bumpers or similar.....Any tips hints?

Thx guys!

Will post some pics tomorrow.

Can't remember the name now, but there was a company in Pta that did those 3.4 conversions. Used BMW conrods or something. I worked at Ford at the time, and they were quite common. Then Ford made it's own 3.4 engines towards the end, but those weren't as successful.

The 3.4l use a lighter piston. 7000 rpm can be reached quite easily with the 3.4l engine with minor mods. (branches and good tuning) Double valve springs and cressida valves makes a huge difference. 7500 - 8000 rpm. I would advise stronger conrods and forged pistons and either twin 38 webers or 4 barrel holley. 3.4l block and 3.0l heads makes a good combo.

If you need more hp,on the 3.0l, twin IHI turbo's from Meserati Ghilbi fits perfect. At 0.7 bar pressure it runs with a M5 and XR8 on a courier 4x4. Diffs and gearbox is good for the power increase (+- 210 kw) No need to change pistons or anything on the turbo conversion. Bolt on. Can run Max at 1.0 bar (+- 250kw) Just need to pressurise your 38 downdraught.

I suggest you try and work out which 3.4 you have got.

There are two main production types:
1. JT conversions 3.4 (JT sub assembly also used by BG in the Sapphire Perana 3.4). Capacity increase was achieved by offset grinding the big end crank journals. extrenally the same as the 3.0.

2. Ford's own 3.4 - later date and a different beast altogether. I don't know much about this 3.4

An there are also quite a lot of individual 3.4 conversions, with all sorts of internals, out there as well.
