Can you please advise on your experiences with paint wraps on classics?

- Any good/bad experiences?
- How long do they last?
- What effects the lifetime of a wrap?
- How does it affect the cars value? Paint vs Wrap (Particularly for the collectors?)

IMHO, a wrap is perfect for a race/promotional car that wants to promote a brand and have full colour print all over the car, but nothing will beat a painted car.

My wrap on my car is more than 4 years old, but the car is stored most of the time indoors with a cover. UV light (sun light) will fade any PVC wrap over time.

Agree.

Paint wrap is good for:
Promos or other uses where you want graphics
Protecting the original paint - say on your shiny new Porsche that you are going to resell in 3 years
Changing the colour where you want to 'undo' the change later - say on your shiny new Porsche that you are going to resell in 3 years (Not every one wants a pink Porsche)
Tarting up a car - it will hide a multitude of sins
A lot easier and maybe cheaper than painting a car

Paint wrap:
Will fade if it is printed graphics. Solid colours where the vinyl is the colour fare much better
Is never as shiny as paint
Is damaged by the same things as paint - Sun, abrasion, dirt, chemicals

In its proper application and use paint wrap is amazing stuff.

As for value - think of paint wrap as something you do for you. Don't think of it of an investment (unless you are protecting fantastic paint job for later resale). A properly painted car will always outsell a wrapped car. Me personally - I would wonder what is under the wrap.

Great advice given . Has anyone ever considered Plasti Dip? No limit to the colors, and can be gloss clear coated. From what I have learned, a very forgiving application. Masking is minimal, unwanted dip peals off! Scratches and blemishes can apparently be corrected without necessity to blend/shade onto existing dip. Peel off the old, and do a color change without laborious prepping.

For purposes of this comparison of the end result Plastidip is about the same as wrapping, except Plastidip is a matt/satin finish. You can get glossifier top coat, but it costs.

To do Platidip costs about the same as a plain colour wrap, bit less prep, maybe a tiny bit less labour to put it on, less skill to put it on. More mess because you are spraying. More work to get it off.

It's a waste of time and looks cheap.I just saw a dodge charger that was wrapped in Matt black and the car is ruined. It's like those vw guys that put all those sticker on the back windows of their cars .
