don't worry Barry, I will make it, and the intention is to get a few of my old RSA drag racing buddies involved to pop the 200mph barrier.....not this year though.....got a car to finish over here plus, plus, plus, plus....

Nice!! - better get them to prep for closer to 250mph, you'll lose at LEAST 10% on the dirt....

I understand, my biggest hurdle at present is motivating the RSA locals, word I keep getting back is the surface isn't conducive to high speed? Anybody with first hand knowledge care to elaborate?

I found the surface to be as good as any smooth sand ( covered with black goo)road you travel on in our country . There are no ruts or holes that pull the car off the prepared surface . You must concentrate as is the case with any high speed driving and know your car or bike . If a Lambo and a Hyabusa can run at 300kph plus ,then i think its a good indicator of the well prepared surface . I ran my stock Lumina at 230kph and had no handling issues except for wheel spin at start so start easy . They say that the surface will be harder and better prepared this year so lets hope for higher speeds .See you on the Pan .

What FirstV8 said.... (IIRC one Hyabusa ran mid 300's 8O )
As I understand the track prep this year will just be sweeping the virgin surface (no coating so hopefully less of a crust to break up) and they are going to have 3 tracks (20m wide) so they can move as the surface degrades.
Hopefully they'll run bikes and cars on seperate sections, as it is guys spinning out that really f&*k it up...

If the guys want to pussy-out I guess there's always the All-Tar event at Upington........ LOL

If that happens while we're on the pan, it will all turn to slippery snot with little prospect of getting vehicles moved.........

No idea how long it would take to dry out at Hakskeen - Bonneville guys have moved things up one day and it seems a little wind and sun would take care of it. Any more rain though and the event would need to be postponed.

If that happens at Hakskeenpan i believe it takes a mear 5 minutes of good rain to turn it into soft snootty mud with not a vehicle being able to move . We will just have to party hard get the guys with big 4X4's to do the boot leg runs to Askam for beer .
