My BMW 325iS Evolution HP
My BMW 325iS Evolution HP
Hi all,
Thought I'd share some pics of my other South African muscle car
It's a 1991 model and is very commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as a "325iS Evo 2".
It was BMW's final iteration of their homologation special (its predecessor being their first 2.7 litre 325iS, commonly referred to, and again incorrectly, as the "Evo 1") in their attempt to win Group A of the exciting Stannic Group N Championship against the legendary Opel Kadett 16V SuperBoss in the early 1990's.
The SuperBoss took the title in 1990, '91 and '92 and BMW's Evo HP eventually took the honours in their very last year as rivals in 1993.
BMW's first homologation edition 325iS, launched in 1990, was equipped with aluminium doors, fenders and bonnet, was equipped with the BMW E30 M3 (not available here) 5-stud race-tuned suspension and was, most importantly, endowed with butter-smooth 2.7 litre version of BMW's M20 straight six engine, spec'd at a healthy 145kW.
Their second (and last) version, called the 325iS Evolution HP shed the aluminium panels (due to cost & difficulty to repair issues), got a shorter (limited slip) diff ratio, and lower front coilsprings. The motor got a larger (Alpina fettled) airflow meter and throttle body from the 3.5 litre 535i, increased compression (to around 10.5:1), exhaust branches and revised exhaust system (with X-pipe to increase top-end torque). These changes, together with an Alpina remapped Motronic ECU, with a higher rev limiter, all added to its increased quoted power output of 155kW.
It was also equipped with a front splitter/under-motor tray to aid high-speed under-floor aerodynamics. Mine no longer has this, as is the case with most, having normally been torn off by driveways, speed humps and the like!
Anyway, enough of the technical stuff, here are some pics (some of them showing the car without it's M-Technic front spoiler which I took off due to difficulty getting into my driveway!). I have also fitted lower profile Bridgestone semi-slick tyres for some track fun

Awesome car, thanks for the clarification on 325iS models.
Must be much friendlier on track, than the CanAm?

I suspect so, as this car handles like a track-honed thoroughbred, but I'll find that out when I get the Can-Am back on the road and give it a go...it'll leave the Beemer for dead on the straights though, that's for sure

Having said that, it has a 2.9 stroker fitted at the moment, whilst I'm redoing the original 2.7 motor, and has some decent poke...makes more top-end power than a stock XR8Can-Am ZN wrote: Tx Indy.

Re: My BMW 325iS Evolution HP
Note the Hockenheim mags Makes me think if I really need the "Home made Pierings" Main Difference in the Opel's 4 stud setup and the BMW's 5 stud setup. With the 4stud wheels you can see the 5 stud blank faces
