Is the car fitted with a 302 V8? Is there a "Perana Cars Manufactured by Basil Green Motors" tag in the engine compartment? Because this does not look like a Basil Green car to me.
The BG numbering on the tag you posted, is the year and month of assembly code.
Most likely B = 1981, and G = August

WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT THIS SITE? You guys knowledge has left me awestruck. I'm greatly indebted to all of you and now I've saved an exorbitant amount of money. The previous owner has also been left absolutely embarrassed by your findings and apologised immensely. We're adults and behaved as gentlemen would, so everything has been solved without incident!
The car was very well built though, apart from the water bottle and the brackets that hold the water bottle itself. The differential might be a Borg Warner brand and the car has all the creature comforts of a true Ghia model including power steering, air conditioning, electric windows and centra locking but with the added power of a very reliable 302-W V8 under the hood. I wonder how much she'd be worth as is though?
Thank you immensely and once again to the knowledgeable and helpful members of African Muscle Cars Forum.

Have a look if there are any stickers with Grosvenor Ford on . I know they did do a few V8 conversions to these cars. Novel Ford might have also done a few but I cant say for sure.

Whatever a 3.0 in same condition is worth, plus 10% - 15% extra.
