I like the way you think re get it drivable and enjoy. If all the Mechanics and engine etc are sorted. You could always wrap the body. But maybe a good machine polish the Blue & white two tone could actually come back to life. Any rust?

Yip, that's the plan. Give her a good machine polish first and see how it looks.

Little bit of surface rust but nothing serious that's visible to the eye. Unfortunately some small dents and scratches here and there but will sort over time.

Definitely thinking sticking with the blue is the way to go.

Lookin' good. :)

Better brakes: I'm pretty sure the discs, knuckles on out from a 1972+ (VH+) Valiant, would work on your car but, you'll need the matching lower balljoints and, either later upper control arms or at least use spacers between the upper joints and knuckles.

I had a 318 Polly V8 in my Chrysler 1978. My Alloy original front calipers and brakes were never changed and even with a 2 - barrel original carburettor and 14"x 145 Yokohama tires and auto. 3 speed box she run away from a 350 Chevy 4-barrel wild truck, with a 4 speed manual on Tarlton raceway. I use to belong to if remembered correct American car club. This was one of the worst mistakes I made to sell her a few years back at 80 000 km on the body clock. Motor 5 000 km from recon. Came with solid lifters.
