Over heating
Hi all,
I am new to this site.
I purchased a 383 Chrysler v8 and had it fitted to a Dodge D500 truck.
It goes well, but over heats.
New 4 core radiator,
New water pump,
Anti freeze,
Mercedes bens Pull fan (electric)
Fushed the cooling system many times.
This is the third attemt to sort out the cooling.
I have spent R30k on this already.
Any advice, I am despirate.

Does it overheat on the road or in traffic?

Welcome Jeroen!
Some more info like ZA suggests please....high heat whilst idling in traffic or driving? Does the temp return to normal when you start driving again? Ignition timing? Thermostat fitted? Which area do you reside?

Thanks for replying so soon.
Pressure test done, Thermostat removed. It was worse with it in.
It mainly over heats on the open road.
In town, I have to drive with the fan on.
On the open road, if the fan is on or off, it over heats.
The temp returns to normal when I free wheel down a hill, and over heats when I climb a hill.

Could be incorrect head gaskets, or someone modified the existing (ie, made the steam hole slit to big), or they used some form of sealant on the head gaskets that compressed and blocked the steam holes.

I run a metal fan from the waterpump (mechanical) on the same motor and my temp never goes above 90 degrees.
Maybe invest in a flex fan, spacer, and fabricate a radiator shroud. The fan should portrude partly out of the shroud to be completely effective.
I have tried the electric fan setup on my 383 as well, but did not have much joy.

hi Maybe consider the truck radiator having to much flow at rpm water does not get enough time to cool just a thought
i had same problem with my car at adle and slow driving its fine when i pick up it over heats on hi way.
car had a rad that looked more like inter cooler core. changed that and problem solved
