The weight of the 302W can be further reduced by using alloy heads and inlet manifold and an alloy bellhousing like Basil Green used on the Perana Capri's.

I worked on a 351C 4V which had the most radical solid lifter cam you can find. No other change. Revved 8500, had power from 4000 up.
After 200+ dyno runs and as many on the drags we fitted a 514. That 351C got sold and probably still running well.

Amazing result. I would have never believed it had I not seen the internals of the engine, the dyno sheets and trap times.

Undriveable on the street.
Nothing is as it seems!

Very impressive if it was revving to 8500 on a stock bottom end....I'd say that's a healthy dose of luck thrown in. Was the crank balanced?

I would have ask Dave I or Alan S if he remembers if the crank was balanced. But possibly not. It was more like: "I can rev you and we see what happens..." There was a replacement motor in storage.

You all have seen and heard that motor, approx + 10 years ago. In fact, the 514 went into a new car - his last one...
The old car might still be somewhere.

The 4V 351C: I consider it undrivabale on SA roads. The street Panteras must have had a very mild cam to overcome the big port's lack of velocity.
Making the 4V heads redundant.

I have seen US V8s rev over 10.000..
Nothing is as it seems!

Thank you all for your invaluable input. I've taken a step back from my projects the last 2 years as the economy had different ideas to me with regards to my expendable income.

I've considered all of your advices and I haven't made any choices yet with regards to the race engine build.

I still have my 65 Fairlane and the capri shell. We are currently busy with a sapphire suspension conversion in the capri and a jaguar suspension in the Fairlane.

I have all the parts to rebuild my Fairlanes original 289 I also still have my 351c2v.

I will be focusing on finishing the Fairlane build first and then over to the Capri.

I've been told that my original 289 might not run as well in the heavy body Fairlane and that I'm better off putting the 351c2v in the Fairlane and the 289 in the capri.

Seems like a good suggestion, the concern is that the 289 is a matching parts engine to the Fairlane but since I dont plan on selling either I can always build the 289 back in if I did sell it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the input and I will post any progress for the restorations as work gets done.
