BMW e12 M535i

Post by ClassicMan » Mon 23 Feb 2009, 11:38

Hi Guys

It's time to introduce another BMW to this forum. This car is the grand-daddy of the M5, and although only assembled in SA from CKD kits from Germany, they were assembled in Rosslyn and should count as a SA car. They have special mention in the BMW M Registry as SA cars and only 240 of the original e12 cars were assembled before they changed to an e12/e28 hybrid in SA. A further 1,416 of these cars were built in SA before the e28 M5 was launched.

This particular car in the photos is number 78 of the original 240 e12 cars built and is in really good shape. She is on her way into my garage....

Specs on the car were a 214bhp in line six (3,453cc) with Bosch L-Jetronic Fuel injection, Getrag 5 Speed Manual box and LS Diff. 0-100kmh in 7.1 seconds and a 224kmh top speed. That is Muscle Car territory.

I also had one of the original m535's - it was number 120 or thereabouts and had the full front spoiler with black rear spoiler and beige Recaros - really loved it - my E34 540 6 speed manual individual - sold 4 years ago and still missed was also a fantastic car.
