Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
Interesting read, finding info on the XR6 is pretty rare let alone a X-ocet and even more so here in the UK. I own a XR6 which I'm currently restoring mine is one of four XRs in the country that I know of and two of them are TFs one being in mint condition .

Carb settings on the 390 holley for a 3.7L engine - might help and serve as a guide?

Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
Managed to pick this Swaymar up about 12 years ago with a 390 holleyLRW wrote:nope....he has a standard XR6 with xocet parts ......i had originally bought the intake manifold/carb/cam and tappet covers through my cousin ..he knew a guy that was breaking a smashed xocet....so i kept the parts before selling them to my buddy.
Now that i think about it.......that xocet intake manifold (for the holley)....u might be able to tell it from a "madeup"/aftermarket one.......the original had the carb mounting area slanted....the engine normally slants slightly to the back.....this manifold had the mounting slanted to the front.....so the carb then sits level......if you have the manifold onl a level surface then the slant is rather pronounced

Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
A good condition TF sounds like a steal.
I would think any good condition original XR6 would be worth about R25 000 by now.

Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
lrw would that be the original xocet intake or on that was modified to take a 390 holley?? henry, i beg to differ, i ahve been looking for some time for an origial showroom condition XR6, one that has not been modded or rusted or filled etc witha clean original interior. most of the XR6's out there need alot of work. it is amazing ahat some guys cinsider to be good immaculate condition these days and the average prices for these vehicles in poor condition is R25k. i have seen a couple of really good ones but still needing work and they are going for R35k +.
seen willies interceptor and xr6, he is asking 60k a piece, and these cars are in good condition but the interceptor is not original, has been refurbished.
just take a look at the autotrader, the yellow one for 25k, i have detailed pics, interior is rotten and the car has rust bubbles everywhere it just looks ok from that angle.
this begs the question as to how much an XOCET would fetch if it was in original showroom condition, guys any ideas???
it is sad that alot of the guys are now pricing for the international buyers who are paying exorbitant prices for our classics and putting the ownership of these cars for us locals out of reach!!!! comments please!!!

Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
You might be right. Ask me about Escort R W D prices but have little idea of Cortina prices. What I wanted to say is that a TF at R8 500 is a steal and Cortina guys should be on their way now to buy it. Especially if as you say the prices are heading towards R40 000.
Mate of mine has a white one owner from new XR6. It has not left his garage for the past 5 years or more. Last I spoke to him he said the standing has not been good for the car and that it would now need new suspension bushes etc. Ideal time to replace it with polyurithane bushes to sharpen up the handling.

it also got a funny cam gear with it...stainless steel fully adjustable vernier gears for the cam and crank.....they make a hell of a noise (they're straight cut gears...not the standard hypoid angled design)...they fit onto any camshaft (has a plate that bolts to the cam...then the vernier gears bolt to that plate)
thats all i have left from the setup (and the cam...its a V67)...sold the holley and intake to my buddy
Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 EXOCET
First, the Cortina XR6 Exocet (not xocet) was produced by Simpson Ford of Port Elizabeth. I bought mine in 1983 from the Ford agent in Eshowe, KZN for R13555.00 brand new. It produced 127kw (supplier's figures), whereas the Interceptor produced 119kw. (The standard Ford 3.0l V6 produced only 104kw in 1983).
I was young and mad in those days and had a lot of fun "dicing". My favourite opponent was the BMW 328i, which could not stay with the Exocet. I had a "dice" with an Interceptor and while it was not a pushover, I did out-accelerate the Interceptor.
The name Exocet was the name of a French missile of the time and the car was named after this missile. If Simpson Ford still exists, they may have some information on this very unique XR6 (each was individually numbered).

Re: FORD CORTINA XR6 XOCET
Exocet missiles were famous when the Malvinas war happened. Argentine forces destroyed a lot of UK navies with them. It was so sad for both countries specially to Argentina because lost the islands again.
By the way... Can you post some images of XR6 Exocets please?
