Hartog Blok (son of John Blok - Engincraft, Port Elizabeth)

Post by Hartog Blok » Sun 09 Jan 2011, 08:11

I stumbled upon this site this morning.

I read with interest some posts re. the work being done on the Bernie Mariner Studebaker Lark with the Avanti motor on one of the threads which prompted me to register. Those of you from the E. Cape of yesteryear will no doubt remember my Dads business Engincraft in Frederick Street Port Elizabeth and his involvement with the car and also that of Aldo Scribantes Fiat Abarth. Although he never worked on the car, Braush Niemanns Lotus 7 also jumps to mind.

I look forward to hearing from you (or reading here on this site) some of the wisdom and history you may have re. my Dad. I'd like to know more about the "old boy".

Take care all

Hartog Blok

Hi Hartog. Tell us of your memories of that era of racing. There is always somebody listening. And pictures. If you can lay your hands on pics of the Lark, you'll be King!!

Hullo Hartog,
Good to hear from You. Are You still in PE? Have a chat with Gordon and Michael Briggs. They live in Ferndale and Run the Garage in Newton Park. I'm dying to go down to PE again. If all goes well then the Kommando (Monaro) will be my transport down!!!!

Hullo Gunter,
This is tragic as the opportunity to meet again never took place. :( Knowing Gordon, I am sure he went with good wishes and joy.

Hi Killarney Racer - I have neglected this forum - sorry - My Dad passed away in 1998 and his photos (slides) are being captured onto disc. I hope I will be able to find some in there.

Take care

Johann65 - thanks to all of you for the welcome messages. The names you mention are so well engraved in my mind. The Woods brothers Ralph and Kingsley and of course Gordon Briggs. I believe Tiny Mariner is still alive - or?? It was a helluva long time ago. Is Koos Swanepoel of Anglia fame still with us?

Take care all of you.
