Mk2 Escort RS2000

Post by ZA Perana » Sat 26 Apr 2008, 15:07

I have on a few occasions nearly bought cheap examples of this car but always they have never been quite cheap enough for mty budget but thats besides the point.

Having done some reading I have some questions about the SA spec Rs2000's.

Did they have LS diffs, some people say No while others say yes and the example CAR tested evidently did have an LS diff.

The 2 liter motor, how robust are these motors as I have read a few stories that they are the least reliable of the Ford engines of that era.

Total number of these cars sold in SA? Does anyone have and idea and what were the standard colours Ford offered?

Am considering one of these in the near future or an Escort of some description...

Very nice thread to start ZAP - if somebody could in fact describe all the RS escorts made in RS A it would even be better.

Talking about RS models there is a 17M RS with 2.0 V4 motor in the auto trader for R36k, a very authentic looking car.

I saw it, it looked a very nice car.

With two of those engines you can make a decent motor :D

Jacques,

The RS2000 had a Pinto motor. Some early (1970 ish) Pinto motors suffered from cam oiling problems, but other than that they are tough as nails.

Now that prices of Mk1 RS Escorts have gone stratospheric, the RS2000 is becoming quite a sought after car.

The RS2000:

The LSD was an optional extra
Colors :
Venitian Red
Diamond White
Signal Yellow

Think 1183 where sold in RSA

Good Luck finding one thats still in good shape. Expect to pay nothing under R30K for a nice one.

Thanks for the info and the great pics Darth, both those cars are mint. I am assuming the LS was part of the various options Ford offered in the so called Group 1 pack?

It's funny how one's perception changes over the years. When that RS 2000 first came out, I wasn't crazy about it. Not totally against it, but not mad about it either.

Those pictures you posted really show how beautifully the front end of the car was designed. What a lovely little car. Great pics!

Darth: Welcome - I was wondering how long it would take for you get here!

Your little red RS is looking great.
