The guys over on http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/welcome.html would be very interested as well as http://www.allpar.com/ because any 1962+ 'DeSoto' is newsworthy. The last year for DeSoto in the USA was 1961. :)

Assuming you want to do this yourself and not go the 'blasting route.

I use a product called 'De-rust" from Laser Chemicals here in CPT. It is just a phosphoric acid based rust remover.
Phosphoric removes the rust without affecting good metal.
In tougher situations hydrochloric acid (pool acid) will work much quicker but etas good metal too. Not a big problem if you are careful but it needs to be neutralised (bicarb or soda ash dissolved in water).
Many 'metal-prep' products are phosphoric based and you don't need to be so religious in getting it off before paint, although some etch primers are incompatible with this

Both will require manual scrubbing too - wire brush/scotch-brite pads.

started upholstery during grumpy weather and late nights. lucky for me the guy who rents the open space in our building has all the machines i need to tackle the upholstery project. being a DIY guy and having sowing experience (mother having no girls to teach) he lets me work with his machines free of charge. starting seats this weekend if weather is nasty.
