Fairlanes
Fairlanes
Hi all,
Isn’t it amazing how things go around?
I was following the thread about the mk4 Zodiac and read about Hi Fi and KR memories of his dad’s mk3 Zodiac/Zephyr. Well I’ve had two of those that I still do not know why I bought them in the first place.
Then I read about Gunter’s ’63 and ’65 Fairlanes and it took me back a couple of years to the two that I had, wishing that I’d never sold them. But…I wanted that 69 Mustang Mach 1 and had to sell something due to low cash flow. Had to sell the ’63 and a 70 XW GT to buy the Mustang.
Well…I couldn’t believe my luck when 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, an old friend offered me a ’65 Fairlane Sport (289 and 4-speed) in exchange for the 2 Zephyrs. Obviously I parted with the Zephyrs. What a lovely little Ford.
Warren (Stealth GT)…you’re not a stick in the mud my friend, and of course you are right..it is a Borg Warner box in the Fairlane and not a top loader.

And there’s more…
3 weeks ago a friend that moved down to Cape Town 2 years ago called me about his ’63 that somebody made him an offer to purchase. We had an agreement the whenever he was ready to sell that Fairlane he would give me first option. This is an unrestored original car bearing only the scratches from 45 years. I flew down to Cape Town and drove it back to Krugersdorp without any problems, getting an average of 7,6 km/l.
Note the eight track tape deck/radio mounted on the floor!

And still there’s more…
When a friend saw the 2 Fairlanes he remembered seeing something similar on a farm near Koster. Needless to say we there the following day..and found a ’64 Fairlane. A bit battered but complete.
From 2 unwanted Zephyr’s 2 weeks ago, to 3 lovely Fairlanes.
I am being blessed….
regards
Theuns

Re: Fairlanes
Hi Theuns
You are a lucky guy! We have a Fairlane just like your '63 that races in the classic cars at Killarney

Really cool, if you had lived in PE you could have had my 65 Fairlane for 500 bucks, and a 64 Galaxie for nothing.

Re: Fairlanes
They're gone, the 64 galaxie was'nt bad, the roof was a bit rusted, and no engine, gave it to my son's new father-in-law, he has made it into a convertable, and its now got an engine and running.
The Fairlane also had no engine, and no rear diff, but the guy who bought it needed it for spares, body was a bit rusted, surface rust mainly.
