That Firenza is a UK recreation of Jan Hettema's Can Am rally car.

Created with input from Jan and other Can Am knowlegeable people.

This car is a great and accurate recreation. It runs a proper 302 and Muncie box.

It is no trailer queen. It regularly gets used in anger.

:D

I saw it at the recent Goodwood Festival OF Speed....at the rally stage in the forest.

Entrant/Driver was Mick Stafford 1973 5.3litre v8 and the car was recently driven by Jimmy McRae.

I wish I had known it was there - I would have taken the trouble to walk all that way, sore foot and all.

I hope someone can share some insider info, as I’m not quite sure, but it seems the replica Jan Hettema Rally CanAm that was built in the UK by Mick Strafford in 2009, is still alive and well, now running in Dealer Team Vauxhall Castrol colours.

When Mick isn’t showing the car, non other than rally legend Jimmy McRae, father of Alister and the late Colin McRae took the hot seat, and has taken such a liking to it, that he has been piloting the car in the British Historic Rally Championship since 2014, battling BDA Escorts, and mixing it with all manner of historic rally car, including the group B monsters in historic rally shows.

Quite awesome.

Unfortunately I’ve been struggling to get good footage, as it seems most videographers don’t know what it is and gives precedence to the European specials in videos.

But here is links to some clips:

Harry Flatters 2014 Historic Rally Top 5

In some of the videos I’ve come across you can distinctly hear that 302 V8 bellowing in the background over the 4 or turbo 5 cylinders barking and spitting in the foreground.
