DANG IT ZA! I had to change my glasses! :)

Surely there have to be some pictures somewhere of the 1971 9 hour and the rest of the field!

Have made contact with the owner of the movie with the Escort in it, he's going to try to get a better clip for me.

Hi Gunter,

Thanks for the message - I just sent you an email. Look forward to hearing about what you've managed to uncover.....

In the meantime here's a story from the UK Z club magazine which was written by Rob Grant about his exploits with that 240Z above including his entry into the Springbok series and attempt at qualifying for Le Mans......

Cheers,
Chris

Very interesting reading.

It would be nice to get something on the Mini Marcos that ran against the big brothers. Those cars were incredible in their time.

The Mini Marcos was a monster eater, not because of big power, but because of roadholding and reliability. If you think that these little cars went up against the might of Ford, Porsche and Ferrari at Le Mans, that is amazing. I will never forget the Mini Marcos that led the start of the nine hour at Kyalami one year, ahead of all the giant V8's.

In this country I recall that Piet Van Niekerk drove one in Cape Town that was entered by Victory Motors in Strand Street.

If I remember correctly, Piet van Niekerk (who I bumped into the other day) had a little bubble made in the roof of the Marcos because of his height.

There is one that is trying to get going in the Fine Car series at Killarney but he seems to pick up trouble before the races even start! He has the 1275 engine in. His father races a Morris Minor 1275, but only when the car wants to run!!

You talking about the green "Mighty Morris" raced by the dominie. Never new the guy was a minister. Name is Mike Cromellin or something like that.

Cheers
